Thank you for attending the meeting. What is the problem with the ageing nuclear power plants?
Nuclear power plants were designed for 30 years. Safety requirements were weaker that time. Several parts of a nuclear reactor cannot be changed.
Private companies do not build nuclear power plants with their own money. They only do so with state subsidies.
How big is this problem? Do we have to deal with it at all?
Half of the 151 nuclear power plants operating in Europe are more than 30 years old. We cannot prolong their closure.
Nuclear power plants can be realistically replaced with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy!
Nuclear power plants generate a significant portion of the electricity we use. They cannot simply be turned off.
Reduced energy consumption and improved energy efficiency would eliminate the need for new nuclear power plants and for the continued use of ageing ones.
Uranium required for the operation of nuclear power plants is not renewable either. If fossil fuels power plants were replaced with nuclear power plants overnight, we would run out of uranium in four years.
